Day Twenty: Lucy Applebee

Meet Lucy Applebee. She's the adorable 5 month old golden retreiver/ yellow lab puppy that joined my family tonight.    I've always been a dog lover (except that one that took a chunk out of my calf in 1993), and have been telling myself I'd get a dog ever since I graduated law school.  But the bar exam, then the new job got in the way and here it is January and I am (was) still dog-less.  Last week, opportunity struck when a lady at Pete's school sent out a notice for a free puppy.   Sunny (Lucy's name until today) was this family's second dog and one dog more than they wanted.  After an e-mail titled "temptation" entered my inbox, I was done for.

Pete picked her up for me this afternoon and we got to play all evening (the three of us).  She's still a puppy and was somewhat an outdoor dog, so we have some training to do, but all in all, she's great. She's a quick study-- she leaned how to sit and "come" here tonight, only peed on the floor once (and waited to go outside after I yelled at her for the incident), and inherently knew how to fetch.  For a 5 month old lab retriever puppy, she's not very hyper and is all around just perfect.
